Frequently asked questions

What do I do when I get to Fronteras?

Go to the Municipal Dock (where the boats to Livingston leave from) just down the street from the Litegua station and call Tortugal at 5306 6432. We’ll pick you up free of charge with our boat. Be sure to be at the dock as early as possible as the office closes at 5 pm. Tortugal does NOT pick up after 9pm or before 7 am.

Where can I park my car?

Instructions will be sent to all guests entering with cars when a Hotel Reservation is made. We offer free parking on the El Relleno side of the Bridge.

Is there any land access to town?

Yes. There is a path through the hardwood plantation to the 7E highway. From there, it’s a 15 minute walk to Fronteras Rio Dulce.

What about the sandbar at the mouth of the river?

Photographer Steve Jost gave us this report on “tipping” a deep draft boat across the bar at the mouth of the Rio Dulce:

I might add for your web viewers, that the “tipping” process was a lot less stressful than I thought it would be. Basically, the “tipping” boat just takes one of your halyards and attaches it to another 150′ line on his boat. He then motors off on your beam and takes up the tension on the line. You can then control the heeling by motoring toward or away from the “tipping” boat at your own pace… he just keeps the tension on the line. It only took us about 10 minutes to get across.

Sure beats overheating the engine trying to plow through the mud!
